PUBG: New State could brick your Android devices - here’s what we found

After the PUBG mobile ban in India, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) came as a ray of hope for many committed players. However, a day after the launch of PUBG: New State, players are reporting a major issue whereby Android devices are bricking.

While the fans got a chance to use their old accounts on Krafton's second instalment of the PUBG game, the launch itself was delayed by two hours due to unspecified technical issues yesterday. Later in the day, Android users got the chance to try out the game and experience the innovations it offered.

However, tipster Mukul Sharma tweeted that his device running on the Android 12 got bricked post his tryst with the new game. He also warned users to be careful and in a later tweet said his device, an Oppo Find X2 Pro also got bricked upon running the game.

What is ‘bricking’ of a device?

Bricking of a smartphone is a phenomenon that interrupts the basic booting process of the device that hampers its functioning.

There are essentially two types of bricking - the soft and the hard. In case of the soft bricking, the device stops booting up and the issue can resolved via a hard reset of the device, which means cleaning up everything and starting over again.

However, in the case of hard bricking, the issue cannot be resolved as easily as the device would require replacement of some components and a simple software root-level fix does not do the trick.

When is the issue getting triggered?

In most cases, the issue is triggered when the user is trying to log in. The options to login are via Facebook, Google, or a third-party account.

What happens here is that as soon as a user taps on any of the buttons, the device goes into a boot loop until it is completely dead - in other words the smartphone just becomes as useful as a brick.

People who have not faced the bricking issues have already encountered other minor problems like the game getting stuck at 38% while loading.

TechRadar's Analysis

Considering the situation, we also tried PUBG: New State on other Android versions, and here is what we found.

The game got stuck briefly while loading on devices that ran on both Android 9 and 10 operating systems. However, after that, there were no hiccups until we started playing the game.

In the midst of gameplay, we encountered some minor lagging issues. Luckily, none of the devices got bricked while playing the game, which leads us to believe that the players using Android 12 are at high risk compared to those on other versions.

Until now, there has been no official statement regarding the issue or possible fixes same by Krafton. Players can only hope that the issue gets resolved soon. We will keep a close watch and come back to you with the outcomes as they happen.

It’s the holidays and the Mercers are frantically preparing for their Christmas getaway. However, the comically large household are split up onto two separate flights and, in the chaos, their 10-year-old son Max (played by Archie Yates) is left at home to fend for himself.

Max is elated at the oversight initially, indulging in refined sugars and bouncing – literally – off the walls. But when two criminals break into his home to steal a priceless heirloom, the enterprising youth does everything he can to repel the bumbling burglars.

Home Sweet Home Alone has promising comedy pedigree, featuring a chucklesome cast that includes Rob Delaney (Catastrophe) and Ellie Kemper (Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt) as inept crooks Jeff and Pam, and Aisling Bea and Pete Holmes as Carol and Blake, Max’s overwhelmed parents.

Most exciting though is the return of actor Devin Ratray as Buzz, Kevin’s annoying older brother from the first two films who's now all grown up and working as a police officer.

How to watch The Shrink Next Door online on Apple TV Plus

Will Ferrell and Paul Rudd exhibit a wildly unhealthy attachment style in the new comedy drama from Apple TV Plus. Based on the popular 2019 podcast from Wondery, which detailed the true story of a psychiatrist who inveigled his way into a patient’s life over three decades, this 8-part miniseries looks set to be a darkly compelling hoot. We’ll detail below how to watch The Shrink Next Door online with a subscription to Apple TV Plus.

Watch The Shrink Next Door online

Premiere date: Friday, November 12

New episodes: every Friday at 12am midnight PT / 3am ET / 8am BST

Cast: Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, Kathryn Hahn, Casey Wilson, Cornell Womack

Watch now: stream The Shrink Next Door on Apple TV Plus for $4.99 / £4.99 / AU$7.99 per month.

Adapted by Michael Showalter and written by the multi award-winning Georgia Pritchett (HBO’s Succession), The Shrink Next Door stars Ferrell as “Marty” Markowitz, a kind but eager-to-please business owner running his dead parent’s fabric company, who’s recommended to Dr Isaac “Ike” Herschkopf (Rudd) by his sister Phyliss after one too many breakdowns.

Ike’s methods prove to be incredibly successful, and the encouraging but overfamiliar doctor becomes a fixture in Marty’s life, his “Psychiatrist, Business Partner, and Best Friend”. At best their relationship is considered unprofessional, eliciting concerned comments from Ike’s own wife Bonnie. At worst, it allows Ike to control Marty’s life and coerce him into doing all sorts of unfathomable things.

Ferrell and Rudd prove a compelling double act, while Kathryn Hahn (WandaVision, Transparent) is typically excellent as Marty’s suspicious sister. So, if you like dark, character-driven dramas, lay back on your chaise longue and prepare to be stunned, as we explain how to watch The Shrink Next Door online with an Apple TV Plus subscription.

How to watch The Shrink Next Door online from anywhere

Catch two of America’s hottest comedians in a dangerously dependent relationship in The Shrink Next Door, where the first three episodes will be exclusively available to stream on Apple TV Plus from Friday, November 12. There are 8 episodes in total, with the remaining 5 released at the same time each week, typically being added to the platform at 12am PT / 3am ET.

Now available in over 100 countries, including the United States, the UK, mainland Europe, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and India, Apple TV Plus is the iPhone maker's very own exclusive streaming service.

Offering a raft of exclusive movies, documentaries and kids shows, with most offered in glorious 4K and HDR, the service will currently set you back $4.99 / £4.99 / AU$7.99 per month, making the Apple TV Plus cost incredibly affordable. Better still, you'll be able to benefit from a 7-day Apple TV Plus free trial if you're new to the service.

You can sign up and watch Apple TV Plus content through Apple’s TV app, which, somewhat unsurprisingly, is available on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac computers, some supported third-party smart TVs from Samsung, LG and Sony, in addition to Roku and Fire TV devices, plus PlayStation and Xbox gaming consoles.

Alternatively, you could also watch Apple TV Plus on a browser like Google Chrome.

What else should I know about Apple TV Plus?

While Apple's answer to Netflix has a comparatively tiny library of films and shows to get stuck into – 80 and counting – what's available is top-notch, well-produced fare with little in the way of filler.

The Morning Show was the calling card for Apple TV Plus at launch, costing $15 million per episode. It was complemented by the epic sci-fi drama See starring Jason Momoa, space drama For All Mankind, and period comedy Dickinson. Following this was exciting new programming like M. Night Shyamalan’s moody horror series, Servant, and the experimental thriller Calls.

Of course, the service's breakout hit has been the Jason Sudeikis comedy Ted Lasso, following the titular American football coach hired to manage a Premier League football team. It's earned an army of fans and a impressive amount of awards attention, netting 20 Primetime Emmy nominations this year – a record for a freshman series.

The small but great library is set to grow at a steady pace - alongside recent seasons of Ted Lasso and The Morning Show, Apple TV Plus looks to have a pretty strong-looking upcoming schedule of new exclusive content.

The Martin Scorsese-directed Killers of the Flower Moon, promises a 'large-scale Western' that stars big guns Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

The Tragedy of Macbeth, meanwhile, will premiere on the streaming service on January 14, 2022. It's a pared back, black-and-white film version of the classic Shakespeare play, adapted by Joel Coen and starring Denzel Washington. And viewers are invited to watch The Afterparty that same month: a murder mystery comedy set at high school reunion, with each episode depicting events from another character's perspective. It'll feature a brilliant bevvy of stars, including Tiffany Haddish, Dave Franco, Broad City's Ilana Glazer, Sam Richardson, Ben Schwartz and more.

The best 2-in-1 laptop in Australia: find the best convertible for your needs

As laptops became ubiquitous in the modern world, the sub-categories of portable computing solutions grew to become household phenomena as well, and this includes the mighty 2-in-1.

This category offers up some of the best features of the laptop and the tablet in one schmick package, and while they started out as relatively low-powered machines, they are now increasingly more capable.

What defines a 2-in-1 is its ability to morph from a laptop as we know it – complete with keyboard and trackpad – to a tablet with a touch interface. Some products, like Microsoft's Surface Book range, allow for the keybed to detach completely, while others simply flip it around the back of the device.

Generally, a device in this category will have compatibility with a stylus, making it an ideal companion for creatives and professionals on-the-go, although not all of them will include a stylus by default.

Here, we've gathered all our knowledge from extensive reviews, benchmarks and field tests, and put together a list of the most worthwhile 2-in-1s on the Australian market today.

The best 2-in-1 laptop in Australia at a glance

  1. HP Spectre x360 (2020)
  2. Microsoft Surface Book 3
  3. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6
  4. Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2020)
  5. Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook
  6. Lenovo Yoga 9i
  7. HP Spectre x360 (2021)
  8. Microsoft Surface Book 2
  9. HP Elite Dragonfly G2
  10. HP Envy x360 15 (2021)

HP Spectre x360 (2020)

HP’s beloved and highly praised 2-in-1 is back with a vengeance. (Image credit: HP)

1. HP Spectre x360 (2020)

HP’s 2020 flagship 2-in-1 is still the best value out there

CPU: 10th-generation Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics | RAM: 8GB – 16GB | Screen: 13.3" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS BrightView micro-edge WLED-backlit multitouch – 13.3" diagonal 4K (3840 x 2160) UWVA BrightView micro-edge AMOLED multitouch | Storage: 256GB – 2TB SSD

Stylish and high-quality finish
Great all-around performance
Built-in security features are useful
Battery life takes a hit
Can run hot at times

The 2020 version of HP’s beloved and highly praised Spectre x360 is certainly not the latest 2-in-1 on the market, but in Australia, it still presents the best value proposition. Its impeccable 2-in-1 design and pristine gem-cut chassis, security features and Bang & Olufsen speakers are certainly striking, and the 10th-gen Intel chipset and Intel Iris graphics keep up admirably in today's market. If you care about aesthetics as much as you do performance and overall quality, this is the laptop for you.

Microsoft Surface Book 3

2. Microsoft Surface Book 3

An extremely premium piece of kit

CPU: 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G7 – i7-1065G7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics – NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti with Max-Q Design | RAM: 8GB – 32GB 3733Mhz LPDDR4x | Screen: 13.5-inch 3000 x 2000 (267 PPI) – 15-inch 3240 x 2160 (260 PPI) PixelSense Display | Storage: 256GB, 512GB, 1TB, or 2TB PCIe SSD

Beautiful design
Comfortable keyboard
Gorgeous screen
Weak U-series processor
Tiny trackpad
Lackluster speakers

In many ways, the Surface Book 3 is an example of just how far the best laptops have come in just a few short years. It has an extremely premium piece of kit – with one of the best displays we’ve used in a laptop, a keyboard that will put the MacBook Pro’s new Magic Keyboards to shame, and a hybrid design with a removable screen. At less than an inch thick, and only 12.3 x 9.14 inches for its 13-inch model and 13.5 x 9.87 inches for its 15-inch version, this is also among the best Ultrabooks and best 2-in-1s around. It doesn't necessarily have the strongest processor when compared to many rivals on this list, so you'll need to weigh up this delightful form factor against your more intensive computing needs.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6 laptop with the screen open

Fantastic 16:10 display
Excellent battery life especially with its outstanding performance
Rather plain design for the price

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 6 isn’t just among the best 2-in-1s out there. It’s also among the best laptops 2021 has to offer, touting sheer power, an excellent battery life, and a breathtaking 16:10 display. Of course, being an Evo-certified laptop targeted for business professionals, it comes with many security add-ons for business users. It’s a little on the expensive side, but if you can afford it, it’s well worth the price. Especially because it comes with a few extras like an SD card slot and a garaged stylus.

Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2020)

You’ll be hard-pressed to find fault in the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2019). (Image credit: Dell)

4. Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2020)

One of the best Windows laptops around

CPU: 10th Generation Intel Core i3 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus | RAM: up to 16GB 4267MHz LPDDR4x | Screen: 13.4-in. touch display | Storage: up to 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD

Great display
Fantastic battery life
Expensive

It may now have penetrated the premium game, forcing its budget-conscious fans to look for cheaper alternatives, but that higher price tag hasn’t changed the fact that these are some of the best laptops in the world, with the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 (2020) touting more versatility thanks to its hybrid design. We love this laptop so much, we’d get it just for the pleasure of using it. But, if that price is holding you back, let us assure you: this is worth paying extra for.

Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook

Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook packs an incredibly long life of almost 22 hours. (Image credit: Lenovo)

5. Lenovo IdeaPad Duet Chromebook

Everything that netbooks should have been

CPU: MediaTek Helio P60T Processor | Graphics: ARM G72 MP3 800GHz | RAM: 4 GB LPDDR4X | Screen: 10.1" FHD (1920 x 1200) IPS, glossy, touchscreen, 400 nits | Storage: Storage: 64 GB eMMC

Lightweight and portable
Long battery life
Very affordable
Tiny keyboard and finicky trackpad
Charger and headphones share a single port

Is it a Chromebook or is it a tablet? Well, luckily, you won’t have to decide. True to its name, this Chromebook delivers two form factors in one, while utilizing the versatility of the Chrome OS and setting you back much less than many of the top Windows tablets out there. Of course, true to its Chromebook nature, its battery packs an incredibly long life of almost 22 hours – you could pull an all-nighter, work through the day and mid-afternoon, and you’ll still pass out before it runs out of juice. For this price, sacrifices have to be made, naturally – the keyboard is tiny, the trackpad isn’t as reliable, and the charger and headphones share one port. However, if budget is your top priority, this is definitely among the best 2-in-1 laptops in 2020.

Lenovo Yoga 9i

6. Lenovo Yoga 9i

Powerful, stylish 2-in-1 that can go the distance

CPU : 11th Generation Intel Core i3 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe Graphics | RAM: up to 16 GB LPDDR4X | Screen: 14.0" FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, glossy with Dolby Vision – 14.0" UHD (3840 x 2160) IPS, glossy, touchscreen, HDR 400 | Storage: up to 1 TB PCIe SSD

Outstanding battery life
Garaged stylus
Expensive

If you want a high-performance 2-in-1 laptop that will keep going long after its rivals have given up, the Intel Evo-certified Lenovo Yoga 9i is the best 2-in-1 laptop for you. The price of entry here isn’t what you would categorize as cheap, but given the power, battery life, and premium features like the rechargeable Lenovo Active Pen and its reasonably-quick pen charging dock built-in on the laptop, it’s actually quite reasonably priced. This means that you’re getting a lot of value for paying just a bit more.

HP Spectre x360 (2021)

HP’s beloved and highly praised 2-in-1 is back with a vengeance. (Image credit: Future)

7. HP Spectre x360 (2021)

A brilliant update

CPU: 11th-gen Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 620 – Iris Xe | RAM: 8GB – 16GB | Screen: 13.3" diagonal, FHD (1920 x 1080) OLED touch – 13.3" diagonal, 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) OLED touch | Storage: 256 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD – 2 TB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD

Gorgeous design
Excellent battery life
Great performance for day-to-day work
Fans can get noisy
Pricey

The HP Spectre x360 (2021) is the newest in the flagship product line and continues the tradition of pairing elegance and premium design with the newest in specs for a 2-in-1 laptop that’s as much substance as it is style. This gorgeous Windows laptop comes with the new 11th-gen Intel CPU and enough battery life to get you through a long day at work. Its 2-in-1 factor can be bulky for those making use of its tablet mode, and it can get rather loud in operation, and compared to its global pricing, isn't nearly as appealing in Australia as last year's model.

Read the full review: HP Spectre x360 (2021)

8. Microsoft Surface Book 2 (13-inch)

A hole in one for 2-in-1s

CPU: Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel HD Graphics 620 – Nvidia GeForce GTX 1050 (2GB GDDR5) | RAM: 8GB – 16GB | Screen: 13.5-inch, 3,000 x 2,000 PixelSense display | Storage: 256GB – 1TB

Very good battery life
Powerful
Very expensive
No Surface Pen included

It might not be the latest in the lineup, but we were big fans of this 2-in-1, and now it has a successor, you're more likely to find it for a great price. Microsoft’s second 2-in-1 laptop isn’t perfect, but it’s an impressive device held back by a handful of concessions. The Surface Book 2 does feature an 8th-generation Intel processor and an Nvidia 10-series graphics chip, making it suitable for gamers and creative types alike. When you take that power and pair it with its nifty convertibility, it’s easy to see why it’s a winner.

The HP Elite Dragonfly G2 is a great business laptop with a stunning design, great battery life and very good performance. (Image credit: HP)

9. HP Elite Dragonfly G2

One of the best laptops we’ve tested, but very expensive

CPU: 11th-generation Intel Core i3 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Xe Graphics | RAM: 8GB - 32GB | Screen: 13.3-inch diagonal BrightView LED FHD, 400 nits – 13.3-inch diagonal BrightView LED 4K UHD HDR-400 550 nits | Storage: up to 2TB SSD

Great design
Comfortable keyboard
Excellent screen
Expensive
USB-C ports on only one side

HP’s impressive business laptop is back with its smart design, great battery life, and 2-in-1 prowess. The HP Elite Dragonfly was among the best HP laptops, and it’s successor is following in its footsteps. Of course, being a follow-up, it’s more powerful now than its predecessor. Now, the line is touting 11th-gen Intel Core chips, Intel Iris Xe graphics, and now a 4K display, upgrading from its previous Full HD models. Of course, there’s a whole lot more to love here. It might just be as close to being the perfect business laptop as any manufacturer can get, but it’s also stylish enough to appeal to the more casual users. That is, if they can afford it – as this laptop is as expensive as it’s always been and in Australia, that price is even more severe.

10. HP Envy x360 15 (2021)

Powerful performance if not the most comfortable

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 – 7 / 11th-generation Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: AMD Radeon / Intel Iris Xe Graphics | RAM: 8GB - 16GB | Screen: 15.6" diagonal 4K UHD, UWVA, BrightView, AMOLED – 15.6" diagonal FHD, IPS, micro-edge, WLED-backlit | Storage: up to 256 GB Intel SSD + 16 GB Intel Optane memory

Best-in-class performance
Exceptional battery life
Fantastic price
Tablet mode a bit unwieldy
No docked stylus

The  HP Envy x360 15 (2021) is nearly in a class in its own right, a 2-in-1 laptop that combines impressive CPU and GPU power with an elegant yet robust design, a stunning display, and outstanding battery life – all for an incredible price. In fact, if you don’t want to spend a fortune, you'll be hard-pressed to find a better value for a 2-in-1. Especially when you’re already getting best-in-class performance. Its huge collection of ports make it an even better value. If you have a few peripherals in your arsenal, you won’t find its connectivity options lacking.

It’s not the most comfortable to use as a tablet, however. Because it’s on the heavier side, it doesn’t offer the best tablet mode experience. However, the positives far outweigh these points for us, especially because even the most premium contenders on this list aren’t perfect, so it’s easy to forgive this laptop for that.

I work 5 hours a day, and I’ve never been more productive

Something’s very wrong with the traditional 9 to 5: it doesn’t work. Scandinavian countries dominate the World Happiness Report — Norway being the third most productive country in the world and Helsinki winning the title of the best city for work-life balance. And their standard working week is less than 40 hours long. They work a whopping 359 hours less than Americans every year. How I began working 5-hour workdays (by accident) When I quit my job in the great resignation of 2020 to become a freelance writer, I was determined to continue working eight-hour days. I was a “real”…

7 new streaming movies and TV shows you can watch in Australia this weekend

With so many shows and movies to choose from on Australia's major streaming services, it can often be difficult to find the best new stuff to entertain yourself with each end of week.

In an effort to make things easier, we've hand-picked the best new shows and movies to watch on Aussie streaming platforms this weekend, covering the likes of Netflix, Disney Plus, Binge, Foxtel Now, Stan, Apple TV Plus and Amazon Prime Video.

Below, you'll find a list of new highlights, with binge-worthy TV shows sitting alongside some great big-budget movie arrivals – and a couple of oddball left-of-field entries, just for some variety.

The big new shows and movies in this entry (which is admittedly quite Disney-heavy thanks to this weekend's Disney Plus Day celebrations) include the long-awaited arrival of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on Disney Plus, the star-packed Red Notice on Netflix, the season 4 premiere of Yellowstone on Stan, and the Dexter revival series Dexter: New Blood, available on Amazon Prime Video's new Paramount Plus channel. Here are our streaming picks for the weekend of November 12-14, 2021.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings

(Movie – available 12/11/2021)

In celebration of Disney Plus Day, the service is finally bringing Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten rings to everyone with a subscription. That's right, no premier access fee to worry about. Given that this film was released in Australia during a time in which multiple states were in lockdown, we're happy that everyone now has the chance to see Marvel's latest epic from the comfort of their home.

Home Sweet Home Alone

(Movie – available 12/11/2021)

The '90s family classic gets the reboot treatment in Home Sweet Home Alone, starring Archie Yates, who played the funny kid with glasses in JoJo Rabbit. You know the drill: kid is accidentally left home alone for Christmas when his family goes on vacation, leaving him to fend off a pair of bumbling burglars using ingenious home-made booby traps. The only question is, will this new version live up to the Macaulay Culkin originals?

The World According to Jeff Goldblum – Season 2

(TV series – season 2 available 12/11/2021)

The first season of National Geographic's The World According to Jeff Goldblum was an incredibly charming good time from start to finish, and we expect season 2 to be just as fun. We'll never get tired of Goldblum 'oohing' and 'aahing' at things with a delightful sense of wonder.

Red Notice

(Movie – available 12/11/2021)

Netflix has brought together three of the biggest stars in the world right now for its new heist movie Red Notice, starring Dwayne Johnson, Ryan Reynolds and Gal Gadot. An FBI profiler (Johnson) must team up with one art thief (Reynolds) in order to stop another (Gadot) from stealing a trio of priceless bejewelled eggs which once belonged to Cleopatra.

Yellowstone – Season 4

(TV series – available now)

Arguably the best show on television right now, Yellowstone returns for its eagerly anticipated fourth season following one of the biggest cliffhangers in TV history, in which the fates of several main characters were left up in the air. We won't spoil how it all turned out here – just know that the double-episode that kicks off Yellowstone's new season does not disappoint at all.

Stream Yellowstone on Stan

Dexter: New Blood

(TV series – available now)

Roughly ten years after Dexter wrapped its truly abysmal eighth season, our favourite TV serial killer is back in his very own revival, Dexter: New Blood. The new series picks up with Dexter Morgan living a quiet life in a small snowy town under the new name of Jim Lindsay. While his life has been murder-free for the last decade, Dexter's "dark passenger" eventually returns to wreak havoc when a horrible human being comes to town. To make matters more complicated, Dexter's biological son Harrison manages to track him down, bringing his assumed identity into the crosshairs.

Stream Dexter: New Blood on the Paramount Plus channel on Prime Video

Always Jane

(TV series – available now)

In this four-part docu-series, we follow Jane Noury on her journey as a transgender teen growing up in rural New Jersey. While her home town is hardly the easiest place for Jane to flourish, she thankfully has the love of a very supportive (and irreverently funny) family.

Microsoft Teams update will help you focus during meetings

Getting notified about upcoming meetings while you're currently in a meeting can certainly be distracting but thankfully Microsoft is working on a fix for this in an upcoming Microsoft Teams update.

According to a new post in the Microsoft 365 Roadmap, the software giant will soon add the ability to mute notifications while in a meeting when using its video conferencing software.

Teams users will be able to mute notifications during meetings to help them focus on their current meeting when this new feature rolls out in December of this year. However, they'll also be able to choose to mute notifications for all meetings or on a per meeting basis.

Focus time in Teams

In addition to allowing users to turn off notifications during meetings, Microsoft is also working on a new experience for the Viva Insights app in Teams that will expand on its focus time feature.

For those unfamiliar, Microsoft's Viva Insights app provides Teams users with personalized recommendations that help them do their best work. These insights are derived by summarizing data about your emails, meetings, calls and chats from Microsoft 365.

With focus mode enabled in Viva Insights, Teams users can make progress on important work with focus music from Headspace playing in the background. As part of this new immersive experience, there will also be a notification as well as a new focus mode page in the Viva Insights Teams app.

Microsoft 365 users can enroll or modify their focus plan settings or even book ad-hoc focus time in the Viva Insights Teams app.

While the ability to turn off notifications during Teams Meetings will roll out next month, Microsoft's new immersive experience for the Viva Insights app in Teams won't arrive until January of next year.

Wix reports better than expected third-quarter financials

Wix has managed to report better than expected financial results for the third quarter due to an increase in both collections and revenue growth.

The company behind the popular website builder brought in $321m in revenue (up 26% year-over-year) as well as $373m in collections (up 33 percent year-over-year) during the third quarter that ended on September 30.

Co-founder and CEO of Wix, Avishai Abrahami provided further insight in a press release on how the company was able to outperform its expectations despite a great deal of uncertainty, saying:

"Our business outperformed our expectations this quarter as we saw improvements in the business environment. Our users are still navigating a great deal of uncertainty, but we believe the impacts have lessened. Despite this volatility, we delivered outstanding results. We continue to layer on new monetization opportunities, and I have never been more excited about what we have coming down the pipeline."

B2B partnerships

President and COO of Wix, Nir Zohar also pointed out that Wix recorded collections from several of its new B2B partnerships with the most notable being its alliance with Vistaprint announced back in August.

According to Zohar, companies such as Vistaprint are increasingly approaching Wix because they know that its brand and technology platform can bring massive value to their users. The company believes that these types of B2B partnerships will deliver sustainable growth for years to come due to the “ongoing financial benefits of renewals, additional new subscriptions above and beyond the agreement, and new business solutions such as Ascend or Wix Payments”.

As a result of its strong third-quarter financial results, Wix is increasing is revenue and collections guidance for the 2021 fiscal year. The company will also increase its investment in marketing during the fourth quarter due to the business improvements it has experienced.

Spider-Man's debut in Marvel's Avengers gets acrobatic first trailer

They took their sweet time, but publisher Square Enix and developer Crystal Dynamics are finally delivering on their promise of bringing Spider-Man to the divisive Marvel's Avengers game.

As revealed last week, ol' Webhead will make his debut in the game in the upcoming Spider-Man: With Great Power Hero Event, which is set to arrive on November 30, 2021, exclusively for PS4 and PS5 players.

You can now get your first look at Spider-Man's team-up with The Avengers in the first trailer for the approaching event, in which Spidey takes out a group of AIM goons right before the rest of The Avengers arrive.

Our take: give us some real gameplay footage

Although the trailer is slickly put-together, it isn't exactly a great representation of the game, in that we're simply watching a heavily mo-capped scenario in which a rather slow moving Spider-Man takes down an even slower group of AIM henchmen.

While we appreciate that the cinematic trailer seems to have been created in-engine, it would have been preferable to see how Spidey's acrobatics look in the context of actual gameplay.

That said, the event is still a couple of weeks away, which means it's very likely that Crystal Dynamics will give us a proper look at Spider-Man's gameplay in the lead-up to the event's arrival.

Microsoft wants to hear what you really think about its Microsoft 365 apps

Microsoft has announced the launch of a new feedback portal in preview to learn more about what users really think about Microsoft 365 apps and services as well as Microsoft Edge.

Feedback for Microsoft 365 is a new community feedback experience built on the software giant's Dynamics 365 Customer Service. Users can go to Feedback to share their ideas about Microsoft's products with the company as well as with others.

In addition to submitting new feedback for the community, users can also participate in existing feedback by voting, commenting or sharing it online.

While Feedback is now available in preview for Microsoft 365 apps and services and Microsoft Edge, Microsoft plans to make the service available at a later date for Windows 11 and its other products.

My Feedback

Feedback for Microsoft 365 also includes a personal My Feedback section where users can view feedback they've submitted publicly or private feedback they've given Microsoft from within its products. Whether they're reviewing public or private feedback, users can review the impact of their feedback as well as the status by viewing official responses from teams at Microsoft working on these products.

While a feedback tool isn't the most exciting new product launch from Microsoft, it will likely benefit users of its products in the long run.

For instance, during our coverage of Microsoft Teams last year, we noticed that many of the updates and new features added to the company's video conferencing software in posts on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap were based on user suggestions such as being able to use multiple Teams accounts on desktop or being able to reply to specific messages in conversations.

We'll likely hear more from Microsoft once Feedback exits preview but in the meantime, you can check out the new portal to share your own ideas and even criticisms with the software giant.

Hands-on: Urtopia’s 13 kg carbon fiber ebike promises big smarts

There are two types of ebike riders: those who want as much power as possible, weight be darned, and those who prefer something that balances power with a natural riding experience. The Urtopia ebike, a futuristic carbon fiber ride currently crowdfunding on Indiegogo, is the latter. The bike is currently being offered at an introductory price of $2,000 and the company plans to ship to early backers in February 2022. As of the publication of this article, the bike has raised over $1 million, with 26 days left on its campaign. I’ve been able to test ride a prototype unit…
